Jane works wholistically and states that reflexology is based on the idea that there is a reflex point on the foot for every part of the body including the internal organs and glands. When these ‘reflexes’ are pressed they send ‘messages’ to those particular areas of the body and aches, pains and imbalances can be relieved.

It’s very exciting and often clients can feel sensations in their body while having a treatment. It is non invasive, gentle, relaxing, and extremely effective for many common ailments.

There are also reflex points on the hands, ears, and face as well. All of these areas can be worked very effectively.

A treatment usually takes an hour and a medical history is taken on the first visit and a treatment plan devised for further appointments.

Monthly reflexology can be beneficial as a preventative therapy it keeps the body running smoothly and can prevent coughs and sneezes by boosting the immune system.

There are addiction points on the ear for nicotine and food cravings so if you decide to give up smoking or lose weight come for some ear reflexology!

Head aches, summer sinus and allergies, neck and shoulder pain, back pain heavy painful periods or menopause symptoms can all be helped with reflexology and you can also learn where the points are and treat yourself.

I am excited to be here at Change For Life and very much looking forward to meeting you.

Reflexology is the ancient healing art believed to have originated
in China more than 5,000 years ago. Like other therapies from the
East, it is concerned with the flow of vital energy or Chi through
the body and the concept that when this Chi is balanced, the body
will be in good health. When there is an imbalance of energy,
due to either an excess or deficiency of energy in a particular place
in the body, disease and illness can occur.

Reflexology works on the basis that the feet are representative of the rest of the body with certain places on the feet relating to particular organs or parts of the body. The fact that these reflex areas can be accessed from the feet enables the Reflexologist to affect the whole body working on the feet alone.

It can also be very useful if a part of the body is too tender to touch or if the skin is broken and other forms of bodywork cannot be used on the site itself. By applying pressure and specific massage techniques to the feet, the Reflexologist treats the imbalance, dissipating blockages to the flow of energy which enables the body to regain homeostasis, thus allowing the body to heal itself.

Reflexology can also be performed on the hands, face and ears.

Reflexology has been found to be useful for a wide range of
problems, including

Stress and anxiety

Menstrual pain

Headaches and migraines

Sinus problems

Sciatica

Digestive problems

Kidney & Lung Conditions

Asthma & Hay fever

Skin Conditions

Sluggish Bowel

Insomnia

Reflexology is not only the treatment of health conditions, it can
also be used as a means of maintaining good health and well
being. while balancing and energising, it also induces deep relaxation.

She has had success working with a variety of conditions, including depression, emotional and motivational issues as well as lung and kidney conditions. Helen also has an interest in fertility issues and palliative care.

A normal session may include a clearing of the Aura (the energy field that surrounds the body) to bring about increased balance and peace, a Reflexology treatment (working on the belief that various places on the feet relate to all the body systems and thus can be accessed in a totally unobtrusive way to restore the balance and circulation) and incorporating Reiki (the accessing of universal life energy, which is channelled to areas of need, bringing relaxation, gently releasing energy blocks and increasing vitality.

Helen's vision of each session is for the client to be empowered, by learning where they block their own success and peace, and learn tools to support and accelerate their own wellbeing.

Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine needles into specific points along energy channels in the body. The stimulation of these points clears energy blockages to encourage the normal flow of Qi throughout the body, restoring health. Acupuncture points may also be stimulated with cupping, moxibustion, electro stimulation, and massage.

According to the World Health Organisation, Acupuncture has been proven successful in relieving a number of conditions such as pain, nausea, anxiety, stress, depression, insomnia, stroke & facial paralysis. Following is a list of some other conditions that may be helped by treatment with acupuncture.
Painful conditions: headache, migraine, sporting injuries, knee pain, osteoarthritis, back pain, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow etc.
Respiratory conditions: asthma, bronchitis, hay fever, rhinitis, sinusitis, cough, sore throat, common colds etc.
Gastrointestinal conditions: nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhoea, irritable bowel syndrome etc.
Gynaecological conditions: menopausal symptoms, painful/irregular menstruation, premenstrual syndrome, infertility, morning sickness during pregnancy, induction of labour etc.
Skin conditions: acne, psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema, alopecia (hair loss) etc

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) dates back to over 5000 years ago, and is now popular amongst western cultures as an adjunct or alternative to standard health treatments.

An initial consultation involves an in-depth look at the patient’s health and wellbeing history to ascertain a Chinese medicine diagnosis. The patient then lays on a massage bed while small sterile acupuncture needles are inserted into specific points on the body. Other Chinese treatments may be used in conjunction with acupuncture. These include cupping, the use of an infra-red heat lamp, electro-acupuncture, Tui Na (Chinese massage), and the application of Chinese herbal oils and adhesive patches. Chinese herbal medicines can also be prescribed as treatment.

An initial consultation runs for an hour and costs $72

Short Follow-ups are approximately 30 minutes and cost $60

Longer Follow-ups are approximately an hour and cost $72

Lymphatic Drainage Massage uses gentle & repetitive techniques to specifically stimulate the lymphatic system. This system consists of an elaborate network of drainage vessels that functions to absorb dead cells, proteins, bacteria, foreign bodies & pathogenic agents so that they can be flushed from the body.

Massage during pregnancy has many benefits. It can really help your body to function at its optimum level and also alleviate many associated discomforts such as backache, headaches, shoulder and neck stiffness, carpal tunnel syndrome, fatigue and welling in the feet and ankles.

The deep relaxation that massage creates decreases stress levels thus regulating the negative effects that stress hormones may have on you and your body. It gives you some well earned pampering and time to tune into your changing body. It helps you to be more aware of any tension you may have and is thus a useful preparation for labour.

Massage also supports the increased workload of your body by helping the circulation of both blood and lymph. Efficient circulation means good nutrition and waste product removal for you and your baby.

A 60 minute session costs $72

A 90 minute session costs $98

Price valid February 2006 and subject to change without notice.
